Keeping busy with side projects

It’s been nearly two weeks since my last post, which is a slap on the wrist given I told myself I was only allowed to start another blog if I’d be good and post at least once a week.

On the plus side, the reasons for my silence are related to studying and building, rather than laziness or gaming (to be honest I’ve barely switched my console on since I’ve been learning Ruby and Rails). Since building a few small rails apps, I’ve moved onto a more substantial Rails app which I’m not quite ready to talk about yet, but will definitely talk about in a future post: I’ve probably learned more in the past two weeks of working on a personal project than the prior two months of following online courses and tutorials.

Not to knock online courses (again): I’ve enrolled in Code School and am working through the Ruby, Javascript and HTML/CSS tracks. On their own I doubt you’d get a good understanding of the big picture, but they I’ve certainly found them useful to revise core concepts and solidify my understanding.
