The one word that comes to mind to describe today is ‘intense’: from arriving at 0830 to leaving at 2130, everything was ramped up to 11. However, the enthusiasm was infectious so even after very little sleep last night I was running high on adrenaline all day.
The first half of the day was filled with introductions and intro sessions (mostly logistical), followed by solid programming from about 3pm onwards. The challenges were surprisingly tough for day one:
- Decimal to Roman Numeral calculator (e.g. 1999 to “MCMXCIX”)
- Numbers to words converter (e.g. 123,000,456 to “one hundred twenty three billion four hundred fifty six)
- Symbolic Reverse Polish Notation calculator (e.g. “3 2 +” to “5”, “2 2 * x +” to “4 x +”, “x 3 * y +” to “13” where x=3 and y=10)
I would like to make a habit of writing a review of the day’s activities and challenges, but I think that’s enough for today – I’m knackered!
